Congratulation on the
Auspicious Birth Anniversary of
Imam
Mohammad al- Taqi (PBUH)
The joyful birthday of prominent figures is always seasoned
with lessons from their lives. Undoubtedly commemoration of
the memory of human beings who promoted divine values in the
world reminds mankind of the most valuable lessons. Today is
the birth anniversary of the great man Imam Mohammad al-
Taqi (PBUH) known as
al-Jawwad, which means generous. Today we are going to
benefit from the infinite knowledge and ethics of Imam
al-Jawwad. We offer our congratulations to all of you
followers of Imam al - Jawad on this auspicious occasion.
In 195 AH, God Almighty heralded the auspicious birth of the
great grandson of the holy prophet to Imam Reza (PBUH).
Hearing the news on the birth of a son who would in the near
future succeed him and teach people the true principles of
Islam namely the same principles propagated by the holy
prophet of Islam to humanity, Imam Reza’s heart was filled
with joy.
As we said, Imam Mohammad al- Taqi (PBUH) was entitled al -
Jawad which means generous, but in addition to this, another
unique characteristic of Imam al - Jawad (PBUH) was his
young age when he assumed Imamate or guidance of Muslims.
This somehow resembled the prophethood of Jesus at childhood
and Yahya during his serving as proof to the reality that
leadership is based on intellect, knowledge and wisdom.
Ali Ben Asbat says: “One day I saw Imam al - Jawad (PBUH)
who was coming to me. I watched him carefully so that I
could describe him for his devotees in Egypt. I wondered how
could such a young person answer the most difficult
jurisprudential and scientific questions and provide
solutions to them. Then Imam al - Jawad came closer to me,
sat down and said: “O Ali Ben Asbat, God Almighty brings
proof to the Imamate of Imams as He has brought proof to the prophethood of prophets. Then he read verse 12 of Surah
Maryam which says:” O Yahya! Take hold of the Book with strength, and we granted
him wisdom while yet a child.”
Then Imam al - Jawad (PBUH) said to me:
" God may grant wisdom in childhood as He may grant it at the age
of 40."
Since childhood, Imam al - Jawad (PBUH) has witnessed to
numerous problems that the caliph of the time produced for
his father Imam Reza (PBUH). The Imam knew about the tricks
of the Abbassids who tried to vanish the real Islam from
people’s lives and revealed the deceitful policies of
Abbassid rulers. Imam Reza and Imam al - Jawad (Peace be
upon them) lived in an era which experienced blossoming
Islamic civilization and promotion of ideological and
philosophical thoughts and confrontation between Greek’s
western schools of thought and Islamic civilization. At that
time, Muslims had reached a high status. For this reason,
many research centers were created in different parts of the
Islamic lands.
Imam al - Jawad (PBUH) narrated Hadith and promoted the
divine culture and wisdom.
The Imam made statements in proportionate with the
intellectual and cultural needs of his time. This caused a
brilliant legacy to be left behind from the Imam.
The holy existence of the Imam as the source of divine
sciences gathered about one hundred leading scholars around
him. By benefiting from Imam al-Jawwad’s precious statements,
the scholars wrote books and essays in different fields of
Islamic sciences which led to the survival and enrichment of
the science and knowledge left from the holy Prophet’s
household in history.
Some of the Imam’s companions who lived in far distances
form the center of the Islamic world. This was because
Imam al - Jawad (PBUH) had a kind of cultural and political
relationship with all regions of the Islamic world.
During his 17-year long
Imamate,
Imam al - Jawad (PBUH) played a great role in enriching this
scientific school of thought and preserved its legacy. Next
we will bring you some narrations and statements from
Imam al - Jawad (PBUH).
According to narrations, once precious
gifts were brought for the Imam from far distances. But the
caravan was attacked by robbers and the gifts were stolen.
The one who was in charge of delivering the gifts to Imam al
- Jawad (PBUH), wrote a letter to the Imam and informed him
of what had happened. Imam al - Jawad (PBUH) in response
wrote: “If we benefit from God’s blessings this would be a
source of joy for us and if we lose them we have to be
patient and there is a reward for that. Anyone who refrains
from being patient will be the loser".
Imam al -
Jawad (PBUH) in a statement
says:
“Trust in God is a ladder for sublimity. Anyone who trusts
in God, the Almighty will please him and anyone who relies
on Him, God will make him self-sufficient."
In
another statement, Imam al - Jawad (PBUH) said:
“The
dignity of a faithful lies in his needlessness.”
